Here we go, jumping one more time and the alarm is the latest Supreme Court decision. Another distraction. We’ve been approaching our problems about race the same way as do the Smoke Jumpers, the storied airborne firefighters who fight forest fires and who go where the smoke takes them. When they see smoke, they jump and fight.
Many of us understand this. Instead of jumping ready to fight every time we are attacked and insulted, the rationale response is to be ready for an attack in advance. We can mitigate these attacks if we just use the power we already have. Our numbers. This takes vision, unity, common purpose, and communication strategies at every level. Don’t wait for a national leader, our national power is grounded in our local collective and individual efforts. Charity begins at home.
When we get it through our thick skulls that we have the power to change our situation and all that is needed is to unify, put ourselves to work, and vote . . . only then will we progress. It’s that simple. Instead of succumbing to Divide and Conquer, let’s employ, Power to the People. That Supreme Court decision is directly related to one election. Get it?
