Chicago Organizers Launch Campaign for Malcolm X Boulevard
May 13, 2026
The purpose of this proposal is to establish a comprehensive and professionally grounded framework for securing the official legal renaming of Cottage Grove Avenue, or a strategically defined portion thereof, to Malcolm X Boulevard.
This meeting and proposal is intended to:
- articulate a compelling historical and civic rationale for the renaming;
- demonstrate why Malcolm X merits official and permanent public recognition in Chicago;
- explain why Cottage Grove Avenue is an appropriate corridor for such recognition;
- present the legal and political realities associated with a full street-name change;
- outline a practical engagement strategy for residents, business owners, and elected officials;
- and request formal meetings with alderpersons to begin the legislative process.
This proposal is prepared in the interest of advancing a serious, community-rooted, and institutionally credible initiative that is capable of withstanding public scrutiny and political review.
