Black Men's Mental Health Discussion

Jun 18, 2026

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and a powerful conversation hosted by Word In Black tackled one of the most important issues facing Black communities today: how to break the stigma, isolation, and financial barriers that prevent many Black men from seeking support.

Moderated by Joseph Williams, the discussion featured therapist and filmmaker Dr. Jason Phillips, healthcare entrepreneur Brian Sims, and meditation leader Senbi Akau Spruill. Together, they explored the pressures Black men face, the importance of therapy, community support, emotional wellness, and practical pathways toward healing. The event also included a guided meditation and resources for those seeking help.

This thoughtful discussion reminds us that strength is not the absence of vulnerability. It is the courage to heal.
