A Family Legacy Reimagined
Apr 23, 2025
The diner stands on the site of the former Bridgeport Restaurant, a local staple that served the community for over 70 years before closing in 2022. For the Nance family, this location holds deep significance. Decades ago, a harrowing incident occurred here when Rico Nance’s father sought refuge from a racially motivated attack, only to be denied entry. Now, in a poignant turn of events, the Nance family has transformed this very space into a symbol of hope and progress.
Named after Rico’s daughter, Aniah “Stussy” Nance, the diner is both a tribute and a stepping stone for her future. Aniah, a co-owner, actively participates in the business, gaining firsthand experience in entrepreneurship before heading to college. The family’s vision is clear: to create a space that honors their past while paving the way for future generations.
Aesthetic and Atmosphere
Stepping into Stussy’s Diner is like taking a delightful trip back to the 1950s, infused with contemporary flair. The interior boasts vibrant pink hues, neon signs with playful phrases like “slay” and “what’s tea?”, and classic diner elements such as pastel booths and counter seating. This unique blend of old-school charm and modern aesthetics creates an inviting atmosphere that resonates with patrons of all ages.
